Canada has no rape culture

So 630 Ched A.M radio made a poll question for Edmonton area people to vote on. The question was. *Quote* It's very controversial but do you think victims of sexual assaults share any blame for what happens? *End Quote* Now even if you don't live in my city I can bet you know what happened. People flew off the handle and called for their heads to be chopped off and the company to be shut down and people to be fired. A typical response from people who just hear the word rape and the slight notion that maybe how ever small there is just a bit of blame to go around to both parties. Thuderfoot on YouTube says it best I will have a link to his video down below. What people like me mean by that statement is not that we support rape or sexual assault on females or males, lets keep it real it does happen. It's that we wish to have people educated on what things they can do to reduces the chances of getting raped. We have two stories to look at. woman A. and woman B. Woman A dresses very provocatively short skirt and a revealing top, very little clothes on. Gets very drunk and at the end of the night decides to walk home in a seedy area alone at 2am. A man follows her and before she makes it home sexually assaults her. Was this her fault? NO! this was not her fault for getting raped. to outright blame a woman for being raped is disgusting. The sick degenerate person who did the assault is to blame and deserves harsh punishment for such actions. Woman B. She dresses in much the same fashion and gets very drunk and when it comes to going home she calls a cab and throws on a trench coat covering her up from the cold. She arrives safely at home and passes out on her couch. She then gets raped by her male roommate who takes this opportunity of vulnerability. Is she to blame? NO! she is not to blame. So what is the point I am trying to make you might be wondering. The point is woman B took more precautions to avoid such horrible things happening to her, where as Woman A took almost no precautions to help not have such a horrible thing happen to her. It's called risk management and its a skill we all use. When my female friend was in Italy the tour guide said not to dress as most north american woman do, because the men often would think that they are dressing this way because they are looking for sex. We of course in Canada know females have the right to dress however they like and it is not unreasonable to expect a normal male to keep their hands to themselves. In Italy if you dress like a slut you get treated as a slut. Now keep in mind this was years ago who knows what its like now of course. To get to the point, yes. I do feel in SOME, situations there is however small some blame to go around to both parties. If a girl or a man puts themselves in a situation that could increase the RISK of something like sexual assault happening then yes there is a little blame on her. What I need to stress personally here is even though there is a little blame on her its not right. It does not make what happened to her any more justified, just as when I hear about a child who got run over by his dad or mother in their driveway makes it any better to say they should have paid more attention. victims of sexual assault need to be empowered to come forward and fight the people who have stolen that innocents from their lives. They need to know there is blame to go around and even if that's true that does not excuse someone from behaving like an animal. A rape culture is by definition a culture in which people condone rape. Police wont help, judges wont prosecute rapists to the fullest extent of the law. I do not believe we live in that kind of a place in Edmonton, woman have equal right and they need to be upheld. Edmonton police will help you of this I am certain. Again this is my opinion not the holy Gospel, I have given up trying to help idiots see reason. Its the same reason I am not a militant Atheist, I don't seek to convert people. I just want to show people there is another way to look at things. Like Thunderfoot himself said. You can try to make something idiot proof, they will just invent a better class of idiot.

P.S this is my new blog. Blogger has a new bot program that searches for spam blogs and fake blogs of the like. Unfortunately mine was mistaken for a fake blog and now I am doing a long and painful process of getting it back up and running. sadly you cannot contact Google directly, it is done on purpose so most people give up, I wont.
